Straight from the Grapevine: How to Crush Your Job Search

Why Your Energy Matters as Much as Your Experience

Candidates often focus heavily on what they are going to say in an interview. Their experience, their accomplishments, their ability to answer questions clearly.

What is often overlooked is how they show up.

Energy is not something that can be scripted, but it is something that is felt immediately. It shapes how you are perceived before you even begin speaking.

Are you present and engaged. Do you feel calm and confident. Are you listening actively, or simply waiting for your turn to respond.

Clients are paying attention to this, even if they are not consciously naming it.

In roles that require close collaboration, they are imagining what it would feel like to work with you day to day. Your energy becomes part of that equation.

Two candidates can have similar experience and deliver similar answers. But one leaves a stronger impression because they feel grounded, thoughtful, and easy to connect with.

This does not mean performing or trying to be something you are not. It means being aware.

Taking a moment before an interview to reset. Being intentional about your tone and pace. Allowing yourself to be present in the conversation rather than overly focused on delivering the perfect answer.

Because ultimately, people remember how you made them feel.

And that feeling often drives the decision.
